Jackson County High School provides a robust offering of clubs and organizations that are available to students. Below is a list of all offerings, outside of athletic opportunities. 
 
  • Art Club is open to any student at JCHS interested in exploring more about the visual arts. You do not have to currently be taking an art class to get involved. Activities in photography, ceramics and 2-D art are scheduled on a rotating basis in rooms 5115, 5117, and 6108, as well as an opportunity for students to have extra studio time to practice art techniques explored in class. Meetings are once a month on Mondays from 3:15-4:15.

  • The Jackson County High School Band has a rich tradition of musical excellence dating back to the program's inception in 1979. The Jackson County Band Program has traveled and performed at numerous locations around the country. The Jackson County High School Band Program is composed of a marching band, colorguard, three full-sized concert bands, two jazz bands and multiple percussion ensembles. Our marching band has experienced an outstanding level of success through its history. In the last decade, the marching band has been awarded twelve grand championships. They have also been selected as finalists at BOA regionals as well as a BOA super regional.

    Our three concert ensembles consistently earn superior ratings. In the last six years, our wind ensemble has received invitations to perform as invited guests for the Music for All Southeastern Regional Concert Festival at Georgia State University, The University of South Carolina Band Clinic, the University of Georgia January High School Band Festival, and the Georgia Music Educators Association’s In-Service Conference. Our jazz ensemble consistently receives superior ratings, and is a two-time participant in the Essentially Ellington regional competition at the University of North Carolina. Throughout the career of our jazz program, the bands have accumulated an enviable record of the highest ratings and been selected to perform at the Georgia Music Educators Association’s In-Service Conference three times, most recently in 2023.

  • CFA Leader Academy is a national high school leadership program. We focus on teaching leadership skills that help students individually succeed and build community.  Students watch a series of seven leader labs and complete smaller community projects leading to a culminating Impact Project that positively impacts the entire community.

  • Chorus is a curricular program with extra-curricular singing opportunities such as District Honor Chorus, Georgia All-State Chorus, GHP, and more. Chorus classes are open to any JCHS student who loves to sing and is respectful and responsible. We have Beginner Chorus,, Advanced Mixed Chorus, and Advanced Treble Chorus all of whom perform at our concerts throughout the school year.

    Our award-winning chorus program consistently earns superior and excellent scores at Large Group Performance Evaluation and places at Region Literary Competition. Our students audition for and make Georgia All-State Chorus every year, as well.

  • Dance is a curricular program with evening and weekend performance opportunities. Students who take dance (beginner and advanced) will perform in several recitals throughout the year. Students interested in joining dance should email or visit Mrs. Ware. There is no experience necessary to join dance.  All hard-working, respectful, and responsible students are welcome and encouraged to join!

     

  • Drama Club is open to all students at JCHS. All Drama Club members will be invited to participate in all drama-related activities including the spring musical and other community events throughout the year. Students will be able to begin earning points towards the International Thespian Society by participating in shows and events.

  • The Dragon’s Den is a weekly role-playing gathering where students participate in collaborative storytelling, puzzle-solving, and team building through Dungeons & Dragons-based gameplay. This club is open to players of all experience levels! If you’ve been playing RPGs for years or if you’ve never experienced tabletop gaming before, you are welcome to join our sessions. We meet weekly on Friday afternoons in Room 5201.

  • An academic competition open to students in Regular and Advanced Placement Economics classes. Students compete in the state competition in March in an attempt to earn a spot in the national competition in New York. Students are quizzed about microeconomics, macroeconomics, and international economics in this intense academic challenge.

  • Open to all interested and dedicated students. Environmental Club’s purpose is to inform students about environmental issues, collect plastic and paper for recycling, and to participate in commumity-wide environmental initiatives. We collect recycling every Friday and meet once a month.

  • Extra Special People Club (ESP)

    Open to all student grades 9-12, interested in helping support our Special Needs Program.  ESP collaborates with mentors and students with special needs to build relationships and camaraderie through after school activities, events, crafts and even families.

  • Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private school.

  • Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a campus group that focuses on serving local communities by engaging, equipping, and empowering coaches and athletes to unite, inspire, and change the world through the gospel. FCA offers Bible study, prayer support, discipleship, and outreach opportunities.

  • Fiber Arts is open to any student who wants to practice any art related to fiber.  We welcome all string-related crafters - Crochet, Knitting, Embroidery, Sewing, Weaving, and any others.  Beginners are welcome.  Join us for fellowship and fun.  We meet on Thursdays outside room 4204 at 3:10-4:00.

  • The JCHS International club is an organization designed to build global awareness and to reach out to the campus and into the broader community. We strive to promote cultural awareness and understanding as well as to increase opportunities for education about the cultures of the U.S. and other countries.

  • The Jackson Student Leadership Team is a program for Jackson County School System high school juniors and seniors, the Jackson Student Leadership Team (JSLT) is a leadership development program designed to build individual leadership skills, foster positive group dynamics, and increase civic and community involvement.

  • Key Club is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. It promotes leadership through serving and is a member of the Kiwanis International family. The Key Club conducts service projects for our school and community, as well as raising funds for charities.

  • National Art Honor Society supports the needs of artistically gifted school-age young people. NAHS provides opportunities for young artists to share their abilities through exhibitions, art-related community service, and leadership while fostering knowledge of career opportunities and scholarships in the visual arts field. Open to 10th-12th grade students at JCCHS who meet specific academic requirements. Activities include the same as art club, as well as the NAHS State Convention and Induction Ceremony.

  • The National Beta Club is a leadership and service organization open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. This is an invite only club. Requirements to join the Beta Club are to have and maintain a 92.0 GPA exemplary conduct (i.e. no discipline referrals), and participation in mandatory service projects/activities each month.

  • National Honor Society is an organization for high school students that promotes leadership, service, character, and scholarship. A National Honor Society member will be required to maintain a 95.0 GPA, participate in all monthly meetings, participate in all fundraising activities,  participate in one or more yearly service projects, document community service per month, and pay yearly dues. NHS members are required to uphold the four pillars of the club: Leadership, Service, Character, and Scholarship. 

    Students are selected their sophomore or junior year based on the four pillars stated above. Once identified, students must complete an application and be selected by the governing Faculty Council. If a student transfers from another school in which they were a member in good standing (documentation must be provided) in their National Honor Society chapter, they will automatically become a member of the JCHS NHS chapter, after letting the sponsor know they transferred from another NHS Chapter via email.

  • The mission of the National Society for Dance Arts is to recognize artist merit, leadership and academic achievement in students studying dance in K-12 public and private schools. NHSDA also exists to foster an appreciation for dance as a true art form and one worthy of recognition and prestige. 

    Membership into the NHSDA is based on a number of factors including service hours, academic GPA, continuing dance education, character and leadership. Induction happens each spring and members are recognized at the Jaxco Dance annual spring recital. 

    Those interested in becoming a part of the JCHS Chapter of the NHSDA should see Mrs. Ware, Jaxco Dance Director, for further information and specific induction requirements. 

  • Pen Friends is a club for writing letters to people in need of some extra positivity. We write to groups like soldiers, foster youth, hospitals, nursing homes, and more. Pen Friends is also a great way to gain service hours for clubs like National Honor Society, Beta Club, Spanish Honor Society, etc. We meet the third Tuesday of each month from 3:315-3:30. Students can earn up to 2 service hours a month. Membership dues are $8.00.

  • A committee of juniors and seniors who work together to plan the senior prom beginning in late fall. The committee decides the theme, decorations, food, event timeline, and all things associated with making prom exceptional!

    Prom is scheduled for April 18, 2026 at the Venue on Broad in Athens.

  • Georgia First Robotics’ mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, inspire innovation, and foster well-rounded life abilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership through the FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Competition.

  • Description: The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). The mission of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is to recognize high school achievement in Spanish and to promote interest in Hispanic studies.

    Members must be enrolled in or have taken Spanish II and have plans to take Spanish III. Members must also have a minimum 90% unweighted cumulative average of all high school Spanish courses and a minimum 80% unweighted cumulative average of all completed high school courses. 

    Students must submit an application and pay an initial $25 membership fee with a yearly $20 renewal fee. Each year students must also complete 15 service hours that are Spanish- or club-related.

  • Speech and Debate Club is open to all students in Jackson County High School and meets Thursday after school in room 4108. Activities include researching topics and issuing formal speeches on those topics, as well as hosting formal style debates covering  various topics. A great opportunity to improve public speaking skills and represent Jackson County High School in speech and debate competitions throughout Georgia.

  • Jackson County High School Student Council is a dedicated group of students elected  by the student body to voice their concerns, advocate for their interests, and organize various school activities and events. It serves as a bridge between students and school administration, fostering communication and collaboration. Additionally Student Council provides leadership opportunities for students to develop important skills such as communication, teamwork, and organization.

  • The International Thespian Society, the honorary society for high school theatre students. Through involvement in the JCHS Drama Club, students can participate in all drama productions and theatre events while earning their Induction Points.

  • The Tri-M Music Honor Society is an international music honor society designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, and to inspire other students to excel at music and leadership.
