JCSS Announces 32 District Nominees for GHP

The Jackson County School System is proud to announce 32 students from East Jackson High School and Jackson County High School who will serve as the district honorees in the next step of the Governor's Honors Program process. The students will now compete for the opportunity to be named finalists for the program, which is a four-week residential summer program for gifted and talented rising juniors and seniors at Georgia Southern University. 

Instruction for the program significantly different from the typical high school classroom and is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment; and works to develop the next generation of global thinkers, innovators, and leaders. Being nominated as a GHP candidate is extremely difficult. There are approximately 250,000 students across the state of Georgia eligible for this honor. Out of these 250,000 students, 3,400 will be nominated to continue the process, and it is up to GHP state leaders to narrow the 3,400 nominees to 660 finalists. That is approximately 1.36% who advanced to the state level and .264% who will be selected to attend in the summer.
